This guide explains how the RC500 implements Dual SIM Failover so connectivity continues if the primary mobile network goes down.
It documents the exact behavior you should expect on the device and in the cloud portal.

SIM-1 (Primary): Your main SIM card, used under normal operation.
SIM-2 (Standby): Used only if the internet on SIM-1 becomes unreachable.
Automatic switching: The RC500 router switches (fails over) to SIM-2 when connectivity on SIM-1 fails, and later switches back once SIM-1 becomes stable again.
Internet Monitoring
The router tests internet connectivity every ~30–60 seconds.
It keeps track of which SIM is currently active.
While operating on SIM-1, the router:
Checks internet availability.
Retries up to two more times within a few seconds if a test fails.
If all checks fail, the router:
Switches to SIM-2 automatically.
Restarts the cellular data connection.
Waits about 30 seconds to reconnect.
Result: Minimal downtime during the SIM transition.
The RC500:
Continues performing the same connectivity tests on SIM-2.
Starts a timer to track how long SIM-2 has been active.
After the set duration, tests SIM-1 again to see if it’s back online.
After running on SIM-2 for the configured time (typically 4 minutes), the router:
Switches back to SIM-1.
Restarts the data session.
Verifies that SIM-1 has internet access.
If SIM-1 is still offline: The RC500 automatically reverts to SIM-2 without user action.
Brief interruption: A short internet drop (about 30–60 seconds) during SIM switching.
Cloud portal indicators:
The RC500 cloud portal will show changes in carrier info.
This helps confirm which SIM is currently in use.
Q1: What triggers SIM failover?
A: Continuous internet check failures on the active SIM. The router retries before switching to avoid false triggers.
Q2: Will it switch back automatically?
A: Yes. RC500 always prefers SIM-1 and automatically returns when it’s healthy.
Q3: Can timing settings be changed?
A: Not at the moment. This interval is assigned based on our experience, and we plan to make it configurable in the future.
Q4: Will ongoing downloads drop?
A: There is a brief interruption (about 30–60 seconds) while the connection restarts.
Primary first: SIM-1 is always preferred.
Smart fallback: Automatically moves to SIM-2 if SIM-1 loses internet.
Self-healing: Returns to SIM-1 once it’s stable again.
